Property types

We have divided our property types into 4 groups:

1 – Single Unit Residential: It’s the most common property type. It’s a detached, freestanding home with ownership of the land on which it dwells.
GLA calculation: The finished square footage of each level is the sum of finished areas on that level measured at floor level to the exterior finished surface of the outside walls.

2 – Townhouse: It’s an individual unit as part of a larger project, consisting of two or more stories. It generally has at least one shared wall with another townhouse unit. Townhomes typically have the same ownership interest as a condo (airspace only, without ownership of the underlying land).
GLA calculation: The finished square footage of each level is the sum of the finished areas on that level measured at floor level to the exterior finished surface of the outside wall or from the centerlines between houses, where appropriate.

3 – Apartment / Condo: It’s a single unit within a condominium project. A project can consist of anywhere from two to hundreds of units, and are often multiple stories high. The individual condo unit is generally located on only one level (as opposed to a townhouse, which has multiple levels), and the ownership involves just the airspace and not the underlying land.
GLA calculation: The finished square footage is the sum of finished areas and DOES NOT include the exterior walls.

4 – Other: It’s any other property type, including commercial buildings, mobile homes, manufactured homes, boats (yes, if you have a LiDAR device, you can scan a boat!), etc.
GLA calculation: The finished square footage of each level is the sum of finished areas on that level measured at floor level and DOES NOT include the exterior walls

IMPORTANT: At this moment, the selection of the property type doesn’t affect the Gross Living Area calculation, but your selection helps us to add support for various property types in the future.
